Highlighting UX principles
This project highlights user-centered research techniques in optimizing processes. It is parallel to UX and its principles!
Story: Improving Productivity Through Research and Problem-Solving.
During my Psychology Graduate internship, I was tasked to investigate potential productivity issues affecting the main workflow of service coordinators (let’s call them “users”). The two areas of focus are: the overall workflow (Type A Collateral) from start to finish, and the task of entering notes into the system. I applied research methods (a knowledge gained through all of my Human Factors curriculum) to gain deeper understanding of the workflow and identify barriers.
Defining the Problem: Understanding Workflow and Barriers.
There was concern about productivity levels. The director requested a clearer visualization of the workflow for a specific tasks that the service coordinators were struggling with.
My process: Define the scope of the problem.
I sought to understand the coordinator’s specific tasks and challenges.

Creating the Hierarchical Task Analysis {HTA}
Using HTA method helped break down the entire task into manageable subtasks, showing the workflow. It allowed me to map the steps and identify where productivity may be impacted.
